5744 powder... Anybody use it? Empty 5744 powder... Anybody use it?

I was looking in my lyman manual at various calibers and noticed that for cast bullets they listed 5744 as the potentially most accurate powder. Was curious if any of you had used it before. I found some at the local shop (not cheap) for about $33 before tax and bought 1 lb. Figured I would do some testing.

I'm working on a building an AR in a wildcat caliber that has a lot of recipes that call for 5744, which is fairly surprising. They're saying it's pretty good stuff, even though it's not really "made" for the go fast, light, jacketed bullet AR type stuff. I got a couple pounds of it at the house myself, but it'll be quite awhile before my build is done. I'll be interested to hear your findings.

I ended up finding an 8 lb jug of it and bought it for a pretty good price.  I am in the process of testing various loads from 300 blk to cast 30-06, to 45-70, to etc...  I will post my findings as I test. Which wildcat cartridge is it, if I may ask?

.277 Wolverine.  It's a 5.56 case blown out to 6.8 diameter.  Far better down range ballistics than the .300 blackout, but just a wee bit shy of the 6.8 SPC.  But, that's more than compensated for by being able to use 5.56 brass, BCG,mags, etc.

    Here's the basics:
