I'm wondering if the guys have any opinion on training options in Texas - assuming I can't get to where Grant is. Are there any trainers in Texas that y'all would feel comfortable recommending?

Keep up the great work, the show is great and I find myself laughing often on the drive to and from work! I'm slowly working my way through the back catalogue.

    Beta,
If put together, Grant will come down there.

OOoh. I can talk to the folks at Best of the West in Liberty Hill Texas; they hosted the Texas International Gun Festival this year. Maybe they'd be interested.

Beta, let us know if that happens. I'm looking for a reason to get to Texas sometime in the near future.

Sure thing, I shot their 'contact us' email a quick note to ask if they'd coordinate something like this in-house or go through someone else. I know some other companies host training there and they do stuff like IDPA and other competitions.

Appleseed training is an excellent way to build a solid and safe foundation of shooting skills. The $80 they charge for a full weekend of world-class instruction is the best value in training. Appleseed classes are held throughout the States.

Appleseed looks amazing. Of course I sold my 10/22 to my buddy at work to help teach his daughter how to shoot ... so that gives me an excuse to get another one. Looks like the 50th Anniversary model that AverageJoe reviewed may have a lot of Appleseed-specific qualities to it.

That's a good guide to what works for shooting in general, and an Appleseed in particular.  If your eyes are taking early retirement like mine, a red dot or scope is perfectly acceptable. Don't over magnify the scope, a 1x4 is probably the best - 2x7 would work.

I'm thinking about getting the a 10/22 50th Anniversary Customer designed rifle if I can convince SWMBO to attend a 'seed with me.
