The Other Red Dot

So while I was on the Natchezss website trying to buy Unique, I came across the 8 lb jug of Red Dot powder. This is one that I have been wanting to experiment with--so I ended up buying it (Unique was sold out). I also picked up some 4227 which I should be able to use in several calibers also. Had to buy enough to mitigate the cost of the hazmat fee. Anybody played around with Red Dot?

I used Red Dot in my .20 Tactical loads to make up rounds for fire-forming in the chamber.

It did not give the max pressure (and so speed) of 4198, but it was decent.

I use Red Dot in my 38 Spec/357 Mag loads, works very well for that purpose.  When I saw the title of the thread, I was expecting to see something entirely different, however.  Red Dot is a blended powder, Promo is another, primarily touted for shotgun use.  It turns out Promo is essentially the same as Red Dot, sans the "Red Dots", it got me through the prolonged drought we have experienced of late.  The densities are a bit different, so if you meter your powder, you will want to adjust that mechanism, but the weights I use are the same from one to the other. I just found an 8# jug of Red Dot local and snatched it up.

Yeah, after tinkering a bit with Red-Dot powder, I feel inclined to buy Promo powder if I ever see it. Promo is cheap compared to other powders, and has the same burn rates/properties as Red Dot. Seems like a decent, inexpensive pistol powder.

?Heat stability of Promo. Might be of some issue in your neighborhood.

Yeah, would have to test the loads in the summer as well as winter. Or.... just shoot them as fast as I load them (ie: same season)?
