Glock 42: First Impressions Empty Glock 42: First Impressions

Post by Dirty Bob Wed Mar 25, 2015 1:56 am

A Glock 42 followed me home last week!

Strange timing, as the Glock 43 (9mm single stack similar in size to the '42) was announced three days later!

I really like this pistol! It's very light in weight, fits in my front pants pocket, feels great in my hands, shoots well and is accurate.

I only have 36 rounds through it so far but plan to hit the range again ASAP. With the large sights, it shoots more like a full-size than a small subcompact. It was reliable so far, though I have to be careful, as it's easy for me to ride the slide stop with my thumb and keep it from locking open.

Do I wish I had the Glock 43 instead? No. The G42 is:
    • Slimmer than the G43
    • Around 5 ounces lighter: a big deal if you want to pocket carry.
    • Easier for the recoil-shy members of my family. It has very gentle recoil.
    • Easier IRT mags. The G42 mags are a bit smaller, making them a little easier to hide.

This adds up to a pistol that's easier to deeply conceal. It's very comfortable in appendix IWB. More testing is in order, but so far it's a keeper!

    Respectfully submitted,

    Thanks, DB.

As a decades-long Glock Fanboy, a G43 is prolly in my future. What do you think of the 42's trigger?

CF: I like the 42's trigger. It's a typical Glock trigger. The difference is that its parts are unique, like a smaller connector and a trigger spring inside a housing, so changes are harder.

I have been trying to get a 42 to give my daughter. She has an LC380, and this would be nice to also consider. I suspect the trigger is a good bit better than the Ruger, in that the LC has a trigger that is much like a DA revolver - lots of travel. That is fine early in one's shooting career, but gets tedious later in life.

?Are mags hard to come by or expensive.

CDNN has them for $20, in stock!

Provided it's reliable for her, I think your daughter will like it. I'm keeping mine! Cool

    All my best,
