Tuesday I got together with a guy I had done SASS shooting with some years back. Grit is a very nice guy who lives out in the country, on what once was a gravel mine. It is generally filled in, but there is a lot of land, leading to the fact that he has set up shooting ranges in his back yard, and a longer rifle range (about 280 yds) if you drive around to the back.
So a couple of us got together to do a little shooting and to go out to eat (Mexican - nice little hole-in-the-wall place). Reason for the gathering was that I had given Grit a brick of white box military .22 pistol match ammo. He shoots this awesome single shot rifle at his local club at 300 yds, and found that the ammo I gave him was the most accurate AND consistent (it knocked down the steel plate) he could find. And he was running out. So he wanted to know if I had any to spare and would either sell or trade for it.
I scrounged in the basement and found about 4k rounds or so in an ammo can. We settled on a S&W Model 10-5 with rubber grips (not a round butt). That's a snubbie in .38 Spl with 6 shots. So it's not the lightweight with shrouded hammer but the exposed hammer.
I took it to a regular square range yesterday (I had been shooting at steel plates at Grit's, along with my Sig and a Colt 1911). I was amazed at its accuracy at relatively short range. I shot at about 15', but they grouped and were pretty much POAPOI. Not sure what all it would do with other loads, but I am pleased with my new toy.
