The Hazards of Working at a Gonne Shoppe Empty The Hazards of Working at a Gonne Shoppe

Post by Charlie Foxtrot Thu Sep 15, 2016 7:41 pm

Didn't need it, can't use it, didn't want it.

Yet, when a pristine S&W PPK/S showed up at the Gonne Shoppe where I worked, I had to have it!

I've always admired the panache of the Walther PPK/S. From the prewar Polizia work, through its service with the Luftwaffe, to it's after war popularity in the US, it's always been an interesting gun.  Plus, there's that James Bond mojo going on. So when this little gem, with less than 100 rounds through it, manufactured by S&W with the extended beaver tail, came in - I was immediately drawn to it.  However, I certainly didn't need another safe queen. I agonized for a while, then finally confessed my infatuation to the Princess. Turns out the first gun she ever fired was a PPK/S, and she had fond memories of it.  She said I should get it.

Well, I didn't have to be told twice - I lept out of bed, called the gonne shoppe, and had a friend put it in the back with my name on it.  First gun I've bought nekkid.  Anyway, here she is:

The Hazards of Working at a Gonne Shoppe I-Gvqdg6W-M

BTW: I've only fired ONE PPK/S round. With the first one, the friggin' slide sliced the top of my hand open. Wouldn't have bought the gun without the extended beaver tail of the S&W version.

I feel your "pain" ha ha... Happens to me often--if only I would stop stepping into those darn shops.

I carry one of those often. It is really handy and De Santis makes a very nice little pocket holster for cheap. I have extra mags in the other pocket.

I have an old, original PPK, and it does just what you said - leave railroad tracks on the webbing of my hand. But this job with the extended beavertail works just fine. And it is surprisingly accurate.

I have Hornady Critical Defense ammo for it. 95 gr at 1100+ fps is nothing to slouch about despite the bad rep the 9x17 has gotten.

I really like mine and hope you will like yours. Congrats on a great acquisition.

    Thanx, Dev.

The PPK/S is surprisingly heavy. I think we're going to keep carrying the Glocks and LC9S.

I can get PPK/S mags for $24 through work. Want a couple?

Get me 2. I'll send you a check when you know what they cost. ?Do they have the finger flip - I like those most - just like in your pic.

That be right, CF. Look forward to getting them. Just bought another mag for my Shield and have had a heck of a time getting the 7th round in it. Indeed, it is sitting with 6, in the hopes the spring will loosen some. Good thing I have other mags.

This should probably go somewhere else but Midway is selling selected powders with no HazMet charge. Not sure how to link to that, but I can forward the flier to any interested.

I saw that in my email. I might have to get a few lbs or few kegs of powder.

Those PPK's have always intrigued me. I finally shot one for the first time a couple of years ago and really liked it quite a bit.

If I didn't already have a Colt 1903 (which to me is in the similar class of the PPK), I'd probably get one myself.

That model in stainless sure is pretty!

UpLula Mag Loader. Best damm loader evvah.  $24 at Amazon.  Uplula Speed Loader

The mags are going to be a couple of weeks. Got to get to the range. I don't want to invest in $100 worth of mags if the gun still tears up my fat hand.

    Still interested, Dev?

My apologies: Life threw us a couple of curve balls -- in a good way. But they took a lot of my time and energy. I'm now about to order the mags.

Sorry to be so late to the party CF. Yes, I still want the mags. Send me an e-mail when/if you get them.

I've been running to work between Albuquerque and Evansville, and it seems to fill my time more than I would like.

Thank you, sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar.

?So how do you like the PPK. I am presuming you bought it. Mine is in my pocket as we speak. And last weekend by "emisary" got me 4 mags for my 229 and one 12-round mag for my USP. Those latter are a bit hard to find and expensive. I got all 5 for $140 - not bad.

Haven't shot the PPK/S yet - or any of the iron I've gotten lately. Dammit. The Gonne Shoppe and pursuing of offers that will get me back into aerospace while requiring a move to Floriduh have kept me all too busy.
