I like my wife's Shield in 9mm, but it is big enough that I usually just carry my glock 19 instead. To me, the shield is not really a pocket gun--so if it won't fit in my pocket, I might as well have the extra rounds in the g19.

How do you guys carry your shield? As a primary? As a backup? In your pocket?

Well, don't you think the single stack Shield is more comparable if possible with the double stack G26 sizewise? I like the Shield. My trigger was fine, so it didn't need to go back. I have changed out the rear sight as a personal preference; many like the 3-dot system. I find it distracting; keeps me from focusing on the front sight dot, which is where one should be I believe. I find it a little easier to grip with the longer mag, BUT that won't drop clean at the end, while the shorter one will. And ultimately shooting the shorter one really isn't that much different - just a little less of the bottom of your hand holding it. And for the record, my hand seems to be the only one I have seen with this problem with the longer magazine. Every one of my friends has no trouble with the longer one dropping out.
Yes, 3 dot sights are not fast pick to me. I pretty much like straight 8 from Heinnie Sights better.
The M&P 9 subcompact is an appealing gun to my eyes. Any thoughts and experience with that?

I don't actually carry the Shield. But my retired cop friend carries a G19 and is planning on changing to a Shield. He says it is smaller, and won't print because of how it's made, while the G19 does. Too wide. But Bob has always been one to carry something small that doesn't show. He carried a snubbie 5-shot for years, with a thing on the grip so you could hook it on your belt and put it inside your waistband. No holster.

I've become a fan of Shooting the Bull/Ammoquest on YouTube. He has been doing some very thorough reviews of 380 ACP ammo fired in mouse guns and now is moving to 9mm ammo.

Oh, you da man! I like that .380 stuff. $29 for 50 rounds, and if you buy 500 it drops to $25 per. Give you something to shoot.

Incidentally, I have started carrying the Shield. I have a nice little slide holster and a DeSantis pocket holster, so I have options. And the Apex kit makes it just wonderful.

How well does it work in the pocket holster? I figured it might have been too big for pocket carry but I would be thrilled to be wrong about that.

It's a touch larger than the PPK. It fits my pockets fine. I often wear cargo pants, and the front pocket is great. Lately I have worn jeans and it fits in the front pocket there, too, although I have used the slide holster the last few days. I wear a vest over it. You can buy the vest at Cabela's for about $45. I hear a lot of guys use it for PPC, as the cover garment.

I have been bringing in a lot of business to my local gun shop for these Apex kits. The end result is that there are more Shields going about in CCW. I am hoping another cop friend will switch to Shield from his Kel-Tec. Never considered that a first line weapon.

Back to .380's.
I just finished reading a Guns magazine article about new stuff. One was a .380. They never mentioned whether it was a locked breech or blow back. One comment about the spring would have me think it was blowback, but it would be nice if the "professional writers" would note things like that. The Ruger LC380 has been out for a while, as now so has the G42. Both are locked breech. I personally thing that is the way to go with the newer +P loads, if you can.

Got out to the range today, glorious day in NW Ohio! Ran 50 trouble free rounds of the Precision One 380 XTP rounds, 25 through the Glock 42 and 25 through the Kahr P380. Trouble free may be a stretch as I had one fail to lock back when the mag went empty on the Kahr, this out of four total mags. But as far as feeding, firing and ejecting, not a problem, these being the most important aspects, IMHO. The Lehigh Defense XP is a promising round, also, but won't feed reliably through the Glock, yet. The Kahr eats it like there is no tomorrow, but not the Glock. Both these rounds have shown excellent results in the AmmoQuest/Shooting the Bull evaluations and are now my preferred rounds when deep concealment of the small Kahr are demanded.

I'm also a member of the P-32 club. Soft-shooting, light, and super-slim little pistol. It's what I carry when I can't carry a "real" gun. Seriously, though, the P-32 is a great pistol in its niche.
I'm looking for a law enforcement G42 (GSSF coupon). That's one of the big benefits of Glock Sport Shooting Foundation membership. The price of a G42 through GSSF is $340, IIRC.
I love the slender G42 and plan to use it in a very thin appendix IWB holster. I'm hoping to make a two-mag pocket mag pouch for my left rear pants pocket. Perfect setup for "grab-and-go" when my wife sends me on a quick errand.
I think it's also a good idea for all of us to have a low-recoil option in case of injury or illness. Something like a G42 could also serve someone who is very recoil shy.

I couldn't agree more.
I once bought a Beretta Tomcat .32 with a tip-up barrel for the sole reason that one day I might not be unable to rack a slide.
I wasn't thinking that I would probably still be able to cock a hammer on a Ruger Blackhawk, but what the heck, it was a good enough reason to justify another gun.

It's funny. People think that the big single actions kick a lot (and they can, with hot loads), but the Blackhawk in .45 Colt, with SAAMI-spec "regular" loads, has a lot of power and is very gentle to shoot. The .45 Colt should be as popular as the .357 Mag. It's just plain useful and fun to shoot.
I picked a powder charge from the middle of the pack in the Lee manual -- NOT in the Ruger-only section -- to use with a 250-gr. semiwadcutter. I was surprised by the mild recoil, but the bullet went through over 42 inches of water (I only had 7 jugs at that moment) and buried itself in the berm. It looked like it could almost be loaded and shot again!

Talking .380s I was at AIM Surplus and saw 9x18 Radom P64 pistols at a nice price~~look like nice little guns and maybe 9x18 is a little better price than .380? For $260 or so maybe a good deal?

Didja take home that Radom in 9x18Mak? I've seen some ammo for it on the shelves of local stores (Academy Sports). It used to be just a surplus ammo, but it seems that you can find better stuff now.
