Apparently Sig is releasing a new P220 in 10mm, based on the Elite series 220. It will come as DAK or DA/SA. Beyond that I don't really know much else. Guy who kind of bulldogged it was from Gray Guns.

So - an alternative to Glock!

Interesting! I wonder how it will hold up. My p220 seems like a pretty solid gun--I wonder if you could buy a conversion barrel and 10mm mags for a p220.

Interesting thought. And I have no idea. BUT the article that I read (quite brief) said that Gray Guns had to do a lot of machining to get the gun to feed properly. So perhaps you can't. But we will know more when it comes out and people have had a chance to beat it up some.

Go for it, CF. All it takes is money.

Got the money, got the gun, got the ammo (somewhere), what I don't have is the time.

Ah, yes! Time! Funny how ephemeral that "free" quality is.

Time is one of those things where it seems you have less and less of it... Especially as your kids get older.

True, but I cling to hope. Last week my son and I took his friend and father shooting, and the G20 got some flight time.

A 220 in 10mm is an interesting idea. I will watch for this.

I think if I get another 10mm, it will be a Colt Delta Elite in stainless. Something completely different from my g20/g29.

I believe I will wait to see how the Sig does. I like Sigs. I like how they feel, how they shoot, etc. And I LOVE the SRT.

Gray Guns does a 10mm conversion of the P220.  I purchased a P220 ST a couple of years ago to have this done.  About the time I was ready to act, Bruce Gray had some health issues and the conversions were put on hold.  I placed a call to Bruce a few months ago, before the 10mm SIG announcement and he let me know he would still do it.  However, he did let me know that SIG would be announcing the 10mm project shortly and, in his opinion, the SIG OEM 10mm would represent a better value.

I'm losing more confidence daily that the SIG 10mm may not see the light of day.  I keep hearing that SIG is changing their ways and wants to make certain they have product to fill the customer pipeline prior to making an announcement, unlike the MPX-C, 1911 chambered in 357 SIG, and several others that have yet to see the light of day.  I am leaning more and more toward sending the P220 ST to Spray, OR to have the conversion done.  We shall see.

Regarding a P220 conversion barrel, EFK Fire Dragon does make a 400 Corbon conversion barrel for the P220.  The 400 Corbon is a necked down 45 ACP case that uses 10mm/40 S&W bullets, similar to the 357 SIG being a necked down 40 S&W case to use 9mm bullets.  The round is an incredible boomer and is called by some the "poor mans 10mm," not sure how this moniker came to be as the round is a bit more expensive than 10mm.  But it is a conversion for the P220 that is readily available and uses the P220 45 ACP mags.

In the meantime, my G20, G29, Delta Elite and Dan Wesson PM7 will have to suffice, filling my need for speed.

Make certain you get one of the later production units. The early production had issues with the frames cracking, the design was changed ever so slightly to address this issue. I enjoy my stainless Delta Elite and highly recommend them.

I got really excited about the MPX when it was announced, but it sounds like those won't be available for quite a while. I talked to a SIG rep last week at a local SIG promotional event, and he said that he was going to try to have maybe 4-5 MPX's total in our state of Utah (1 per store for the 4-5 largest gun shops in the state) by end of December.

Otis, if you had to pick only one of your 10mm's to keep, which one would you pick and why?

Now that is a tough question, I'm feeling like Sophie in Sophie's Choice. The G29 would be fairly easy to give up.  Between the Colt and the Dan Wesson, I prefer the Wesson, build quality and fit and finish are a bit better, IMHO.  The G20 would probably be left standing at the end of the day.  While I own several 1911's and enjoy each and every one of them, thumb and grip safeties are just not my cup of tea.  Both 10mm 1911's in my safe are true beauties, each with a stainless frame and slide and have been very reliable.  The Glock is a rough and tumble handgun, I don't really care if it gets scratched up, dropped or shot and/or stored while dirty.  It will take whatever comes it's way and just keep going.  The 1911's need more attention and pampering, not that I don't enjoy that activity.  I just hope the day doesn't come that a decision like this needs to be made.

    Very well said, Otis.

I'd love to get a 1911 in 10, but until then, the G20 works very well.
