A gun buddy and I have been looking at the 6.5 Grendel cartridge and were thinking about how cool it would be to have one in a light bolt gun config with maybe an 18-22" barrel and not too heavy of a stock.  As I looked into it a little further, I found that a couple of guys were converting CZ 527 rifles chambered in 7.62x39 into Grendel rifles without too much work.  If I did this, that rifle would go from being a 200-300 yard rifle (max) to maybe a 600-800 yard rifle.  Being a bolt gun and having a little more room for tweaking (overall length and pressure) than in the AR platform, this could be a really cool little rifle.  Anyways, after looking at a few barrel options in the $300-500 price range, I am thinking that this might be a tax return fun project.  What do you think?

As a side note, the local shop just got in a bunch of hornady 6.5 Grendel brass and dies.

Corn, SQUIRREL! How accurate is the 7.62x39 cartridge out of your bolter? I'm getting 3-4+ MOA out of my SKS using WWB. Interested in how accurate the round could be.

And have you looked at the 6.5 Creedmoor? Man, that's getting some good noise on the webz. And the .308 donor case has got to be more available than a brass 7.62x39 case. Of course, you'd be buying a new bolt as well as barrel.

I have a Savage LRP chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, very accurate--it is my go to rifle for beyond 600 yards. It really bucks the wind and has less recoil than a .308.

The accuracy out of the cz527 was less than I expected while chambered for 7.62x39, and I was somewhat disappointed. I think even my 300 blk pistol was more accurate than this gun at 100 yards. I had read and seen reviews from other people who were getting much better accuracy than mine. I figured that a 6.5 Grendel modification would only require getting a new barrel (same bolt) and pay a gunsmith to install it and headspace it properly. I found a Lothar Walther barrel and took the gun over to a shop to get it installed--but they are backlogged for a while. I guess I wanted to turn that 527 into a light weight, handy, 500-800 yard gun. Who knows when the gun will be done, but I am kind of excited to get it back. A friend has already told me if I don't want to keep the gun he will buy it... lol.
