    Ruger Mini-14 Tactical in 300 AAC Blackout

    I was wondering when they'd get around to it. That lil' carbine would make an excellent house/ truck gun.

    I wonder how much one of those would cost. Do you know if they take regular AR mags or are they a proprietary mag?

    Corn;

    I expect them to go for about $700 - 750 at the LGS.

    The Mini mags are proprietary, and pricy, as Ruger makes the only ones that are reliable.

    Howevah, the Mini 300 looks to be a great trunk gun/ home defense weapon - without the absolute need for many mags. And Magpul just might make a Mini mag in the future. As a Ruger, it's hell for stout, perfect for the knockabout role as a trunk gun. A Mini would better tolerate the indifferent maintenance that a self-defense gun often endures. And although it shouts GUN, it doesn't scream EVIIIIIIIL GUN like the AR does to some cops. That used to be a concern when I lived on the hoplophobic Cali coast. It'll be certainly accurate enough at carbine distances.

    This could be the ultimate way to guard against 300 BLK in a 5.56 AR: 300 BLK would ONLY go in the Mini. Different gun - different magazines.  Almost CF Proof

    The Mini 300 is definitely on my list - not at the top, but certainly toward the top.

    I guess that is one way to get into 300 blk if you are worried about loading the wrong ammo into a gun--although it is still possible.

    Oh, come on, CF! You're way too good at gun handling to make that kind of mistake. If you really worry, put together an AR with a Wilson barrel (shinny) so it looks different.

    But go look at the .300 cartridges. They just don't look like 5.56 any more than a .242 looks like a 5.56.

    Dev; my screen name was chosen for a reason: my innate ability to screw-up by the numbers. I've grown to see that I'm probably not anymore more accident prone than the norm, just more aware of the possibilities.

    When I sail offshore, my crewmates have called me detailed orientated, prepared, or just plain obsessive. When it finally did all turn into Brown #25, I had the tools, materials, and knowledge to solve the problem. My crewmates called it "lucky".

    Some real gun-pros have stuffed the wrong mag into a 5.56. If they can do it, I certainly can. I'll plan around that possibility.

    And you were right - the 300 is looking like it's worth the risk.

    OH, yes. And don't let anyone else load your magazines.
