Thanks Corn. The M1 came with a REALLY crappy stock. Dried out and splintering, with "1967" carved into the side, it was so loose that you could wobble the action inside it. I got a really good deal on the M1 due to the very crappy stock.
Several years ago, I bought a walnut stock set unfinished from Boyd's and finished it myself. It took a few days but totally worth it. I saved the crappy stock because . . . well, I'm not sure why.
I just heard from a fella who's made pistol grips for me before, and I have a set of Texas Mesquite grips with inlaid buffalo nickels on the way for the 1911. Because, as CF put it, "Murica."
