Suppressors and the Public

Well, I just visited a new range down here in Evansville. It is part of a gun shop about 15 miles north of Evansville (well, maybe a bit more).

But of note - they had THREE Sigs with threaded barrels on sale. All were, I believe 226's. One was that sand colour (?why would one buy that) and the other two were black. I also saw one at Gander Mountain. They, of course, want a ton of money for it, but they always want a ton of money for their stuff.

But it would seem that suppressors are becoming more and more a part of the shooting scene. More guns are showing up with threaded barrels.

Maybe after we get Constitutional Carry in most states (no hope for Cali), we can get suppressors decriminalized.

I am seriously contemplating a suppressed SBR in 300 BLK for home defense. Makes too damn much sense.

Actually, CF, I rather like that idea. Too bad we can't get 3-round-triggers. THAT would put the icing on the cake.

Also considering a supressed 9mm carbine using Glock 33 round mags (soon to be produced by Magpul -- pleeeeease!!!) Either in the AR platform or something like the KelTec SUB2000 purpose built carbines.

The new house, with it's much longer sight lines (and very large field of fire) will weigh heavily on a longer range solution.

?What - you live in a mansion with 60' rooms. That's still only 20 yds - not exactly long range shooting.

?Why in the world would you consider a 9mm carbine. That round is a pistol round, and unless you have access to Israeli submachine gun ammo (for their Uzi's I believe) you don't get much more speed or power. You still can't beat a .300 BLK, super or subsonic. Goo subsonic and you have a 220 gr bullet out the suppressor.

Yeah, but -- the new house has as much as 120 yards of beaten ground around it.  And 2000 squares of delightfully empty basement: call it 30 yards corner to corner. And yes, I've already marked off an air-rifle range.  

The thoughts on 9 are availability and the ~35% extra energy the 16" inch barrel provides over a Glock's 4.3" barrel. And, as a Glocker, I plan to be swimming in 33 round mags from Magpul. As if I'm not already swimming in Magpul and other's 30 round AR mags - 'Murica!  

However, even though I haven't completed my analysis (I seldom do) the 300 BLK suppressed SBR looks like it is retaining its advantage.  And if I continue to analyze things, I don't have to buy/ build. And suppressor popularity and availability might continue to grow, prices could come down.  Win-win!

Don't know how good of a self defense option it would be, but they sure are loads of fun. (note: most 9mm carbines use a non-typical barrel threading--1/2x36 instead of 1/2x28 like 9mm pistols and .22 caliber rifles.)

Is anyone going the Trust route for your suppressor/ SBR? Tom Gresham had a generic Trust attorney on this weekend's podcast. Sounds interesting.

I believe I will. Suppressors aren't legal yet in Illlinois, but I expect they are coming. And a Trust seems simply a good way to safeguard the guns (I think).

Yeah, I've been using a trust for all my suppressors and just finished the efile "paperwork" for my SBR. The trust seems like the best way to do it currently. Also, CF, you can still find the correct thread (1/2x36) fixed mounts for some 9mm suppressors--they are just less common and a little harder to find. I have one for my Octane 45 to use on my 9mm AR.
